Ontario Releases Plan for Safe Reopening of Schools in September

On July 30, the Ontario government announced plans for the safe reopening of schools for in-class instruction beginning this September. The plan prioritizes the health and safety of students and staff, and provides school boards with unprecedented resources and flexibility, while accommodating regional differences in trends of key public health indicators. This plan was developed in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the COVID-19 Command Table and pediatric experts.

Details on the safe restart of the 2020-2021 school year are available here.
COVID Alert App Available for Download
Ontario, in partnership with the federal government, announced that COVID Alert, a privacy-first COVID-19 exposure notification app, is now available for download in Ontario. All Ontarians are encouraged to download the app for free from the Apple and Google Play app stores.

The COVID Alert App lets you know if you may have been exposed to the virus. You can then get tested, keeping you and your community safe. While the app is voluntary, the more people who use the app, the more effective we will be at stopping the spread of COVID-19.

COVID Alert is:
  • Free. Download it in the Apple and Google app stores
  • Easy to use. Forget it’s installed and stay safe on your daily journey.
  • Safe and private. It never collects your health information, location or identity.
Ontario Continues to Gradually and Safely Reopen Child Care for Working Parents

On July 30, the Ontario government announced its plan to allow licensed child care centres across Ontario to open at full capacity starting September 1, 2020. As a result, parents will be able to return to work knowing their children are in a safe and supportive care setting.

EarlyON Child and Family Centres will also be permitted to reopen with in-person programming along with before and after-school programs for school aged children which will be permitted to operate with standard ratios and maximum group size requirements. All of these programs will be subject to health and safety protocols in order to keep kids safe; for more details, visit this link.
Commemorating the Sacrifice of Canadian Service Members

Ontario is honouring members of the Canadian Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country by providing $1 million to plant additional trees along the Highway of Heroes.

In partnership with the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign, the province is providing the funding to support the goal of planting 117,000 trees along the highway, which represents one tree for every soldier who died serving Canada since Confederation.
Drive safely this long weekend!

Please obey the speed limits and drive safely! Visit Ontario 511 for up-to-date road conditions, closure information and more.

The Ontario 511 app provides images from over 600 cameras and includes up-to-date highway information on construction, collisions and road closures. It also identifies open rest areas and locations throughout the province that offer food and fuel.
