Welcome to the Markham-Stouffville
Weekly Update for July 6, 2019

Canada Day Weekend 2019
Last weekend there were a number of celebrations across the riding to mark Canada's 152nd Birthday. From the 35th Annual Strawberry Festival to the Markham Citizenship Ceremony, Canada Day Seniors' Lunch and the Flag Raising and fireworks. Across the riding, our community was celebrating how proud we all are to live in and be a part of Canada!

35th Annual Strawberry Festival
On Friday, I attended the opening ceremonies of the 35th annual Stouffville Strawberry Festival at which we honoured the 2019 Witchurch-Stouffville Citizen of the Year, Roger Davidson and the 2019 Whitchurch-Stouffville Sportsperson of the Year, Ryan Belme. Congratulations again Roger and Ryan!
2019 Whitchurch-Stouffville Citizen of the Year

Roger heads out for roughly 4.5 hours a day walking with his black lab Bosco and picking up garbage along the streets of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Travelling about 16 kilometres a day for the past year and a half to improve his health, Roger's efforts to clean up the town have not gone unnoticed. Thank you for going above and beyond to make Whitchurch-Stouffville a more beautiful place to live.

Ryan is an accomplished Power Chair Hockey player. In 2018, Ryan was the youngest member of Team Canada at the IWAS Powerchair Hockey World Championship in Italy. This year, Ryan is off to Australia with PowerHockey Canada to compete in the Australia Nationals and other international matches.

Strawberry Festival Pancake Breakfast

On Saturday, I co-hosted the Strawberry Festival Pancake Breakfast alongside MP Jane Philpott and Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. We had a great time serving pancakes with strawberries and maple syrup to hundreds of community members. A big thank you to everyone who came out. It was wonderful to see you.
Markham Citizenship Ceremony
On Monday I joined members of Markham City Council at the Markham Citizenship Ceremony. Celebrating Canada Day was extra special for this group of Canada's newest citizens. Congratulations to our new Canadian Citizens!

City of Markham's Canada Day Seniors' Lunch
After the Citizenship Ceremony, I headed to Le Parc to celebrate seniors in our community. I enjoyed helping to serve 800 seniors a delicious free lunch of salad, lasagna and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Markham-Stouffville Provincial Youth Council

I am very excited to announce the formation of the Markham-Stouffville Provincial Youth Council! This a great opportunity for local youth to learn more about the provincial government, develop their research skills, and understand the relationship between the government, their local representative and other community stakeholders.

If you know any young people who would appreciate this opportunity, please share this with them!

Open House

Today, July 6th, I will be hosting an Open House at my Constituency Office. Come on out from 1:00 - 3:00 PM to say hello, see the office, and meet your Markham-Stouffville Provincial Constituency Office Team.

The office is located at Suite 400, 37 Sandiford Dr. in Stouffville. I hope to see you soon!
